Silverfish Control

Silverfish Control

Silverfish love dark and damp spaces such as bathrooms, kitchens and attic spaces.

Silverfish feed on starches and dextrin in adhesives which can be found in books (paper), photographs, plaster, clothing, carpets and other household items and materials. Fabrics they will consume include cottons, leather, linen and silk which means your curtains, clothing, furniture and rugs are at risk of damage from these highly destructive creatures.

They are about 13-25mm in length and their abdomens taper from wide at the head to narrow at the tail giving them a fish-like appearance- especially when they wriggle. They are also known as fish moths or carpet sharks. They typically live 2-8 years.

Why should you remove or treat silverfish?

  • Can cause stains on clothing and furnishings.
  • They can damage furnishings, clothings, books and photographs by creating small holes or notches.
  • They can also be found in unsealed dried food packets.
  • While silverfish are not known to carry any diseases they can trigger allergic reactions in people with sensitive skin.
  • Silverfish can be a result of damp issues and so looking for the cause of a silverfish infestation is important.

Insect Control & Prevention

In the UK there are over 20,000 orders of insects

It is vital for us to understand what insect you have. Don’t worry, we don’t expect you to know – we can diagnose some insect problems over the phone – however in most cases we would carry out a specialist consultation and survey to provide the following benefits:

  • We cover a massive range of insect control from fleas, bed bugs, clothes moths, carpet beetles, and woodworm.
  • With all insects, it’s important to find their nests and what they are living on. We will treat the insects using the correct method but also look to kill the eggs and larvae.
  • Many companies will just treat the areas quickly & cheaply, and do nothing to combat the eggs or source of infestation. It is impossible to control infestations without knowing why they are there in the first place!
